I think the last time I used a typewriter was 1993. I had to stop using it since I couldn't find an AC adapter that worked with it. Plus, I got access to regular computer use not long after that.

I need friends who can tolerate my atypical personality so I can practice freedom of speech

I only want to be friends with people who can tolerate my atypical personality. That way I can be allowed to practice freedom of speech. As you might know, the right to free speech doesn't equal the right to be heard. Since that 's the case, that means that you are required to shut the fuck up if someone doesn't want to hear what you have to say. In my estimation, people who can tolerate my atypical personality are more likely to be interested in what I hate to say. Therefore, there's little chance that they'd tell me to shut the fuck up.

It may be my opinion or it may be a psychological need, but I feel that I have a substantial need to express myself freely. I can't express myself freely if I associate with people who only want me to tell them what they want to hear. But I can express myself freely if I associate with people who understand that I have a substantial need to express myself freely. In other words, those who demand that I tell them ONLY what they want to hear ARE NOT my friends, while those who don't demand that I tell them only what they want to hear ARE my friends. I suspect that some people will conclude that such a policy indicates one or more personality defects on my part. and they may be right. But if this policy works for me, then why should anybody complain about it?

"Ye" is pronounced "thee"

I learned something today (actually last weekend). While watching the C-SPAN interview of author Seth Lerer, I learned that the Old English word "ye" is actually pronounced "thee." According to Lerer, "thee" was originally spelled with a letter that signified the "th" sound. Later, that letter was replaced with a letter that looks like "a 'y' with a hat" over it. Eventually, the word in question was spelled with a regular letter y. And as time passed, folks forgot about the true pronunciation of "ye." And now folks pronounce it with a "y" sound instead of the correct "th" sound. Now that's what I call the biggest historical surpise I've heard since I learned that pirates never produced treasure maps!
http://www.comicspace.com/timelike01/comics.php?action=gallery&comic_id=7333
For those who don't know (and that's most of you), Whiners is a web comic miniseries I creatred that deals with a small group of whiny cats and their human friend as they travel to other universes in search of a world where cat persecution doesn't exist. After all, cat persecution is one of the most prominent and obscene cliches in history. Whiners represents a more creative view of the cat bashing cliche in that it regards that mess as the mess that it is. Very rare in today's modern dystopia.

What's the threshold?

What's the threshold between sanity and insanity? According to what I've observed, the threshold is often whatever each person defines it to be. To me that doesn't make sense. Yet at the same time, it does make sense. That's because we live in a dystopia: A world where nonesense makes sense. Consider this: When I first learned about Asperger's disorder (which I don't recognize as a real mental disorder), I asked the therapist I was seeing at the time if I had it. After consulting her copy of the DSM-IV-TR, she determined that I didn't have Asperger's disorder even though I had some of the symptoms -- and borderline at that. Some weeks later, she suddenly decided that I did have Asperger's disorder. Apprently, this was because she had gone to some psychological conference of some sort. When I asked her if Asperger's disorder would even be considered a disorder of the majority of people had it, she said it wouldn't be a disorder in that case. I guess that's what I get for seeing a therapist who's not as smart as I am. (Geico.com. It's so easy, a therapist can use it.)

I suspect that mental illness is often defined by the kind of environment you're living in. (I got that notion from some psychological book I read a couple of years ago.) The current environment in which I live defines me as being mentally disturbed since I continue to resist conforming. But if I lived in an environment where the majority of people behaved in a manner similar to mine, then I'd be defined as being quite sane. But since I'm stuck in this dystopian pseudo-society and since I find conforming to many of its ways to be extremely boring, it looks like the best option I have is to associate as much as possible with people who can tolerate my atypical personality. And yes, I know I've say that before a bunch of times.

In my experience, the U.S. Postal Service (or as I like to call them the U.S. Postal Scumlords) continues to lower the quality of it services, while exponentially increasing the price of its services. But in this age of the internet and other low-cost or no-cost alternatives, the Post Office is shooting themselves in the foot by maintaining their current policy of inefficiency. I'm reminded of an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer explained that the Post Office is no longer necessary since there are already alternatives to it. And since the Post Office wants to follow the same kind of insanity that BuchCo follows -- the belief that employing the same inefficient policies will actually improve things -- I just might have to take Kramer's advice and never used the Post Office again. Ha-ha!

Therapy sucks again!

I got a new therapist a couple of months ago, and she initially turned out to be pretty good. Unlike my previous therapist, my current therapist actually let me talk and rarely interrupted me. But yesterday, those good times came to a crashing end. When I asked her how to deal with rejection, she basically said I should just get back up, dust myself off and try again. I don't know about you, but I've heard that expression about a quadrillion times! In other words, I again have to deal with a therapist who is not as smart as I am!

I guess therapists these days don't need to be so educated since most Americans today seem to be less informed than the previous generation. Therefore, I may be required to look for a therapist who IS smarter than I am or just quit therapy entirely. Whatever the case, the dumbing down of America is really, really boring to me.

Really! I have enough problems taking responsibility for my own behavior. Why should I also take resposibility for that of others? If a person is stupid enough to take me out of context, I have ZERO responsiblity for that. I have NO CONTROL over other people's behaivor, therefore I should not be held responsible for their behavior. Yet I am held responsible for it anyway because so many irresponsible people don't want to take responsibility for their own fuck ups. Yes, I know that's the nature of this modern dystopia. But no matter what, I don't give a shit! I'm not taking responsibility for other people's behavior! And I can't say that enough times!

Have you ever noticed that the so-called war on terrorism seems to have a greater focus on restricting civil liberties than the actual act of stopping terrorism? That's why I believe that stopping terrorism will eliminate the "need" to restrict civil liberties. Now I'm suddenly reminded of the "death of a thousand cuts" deal. That is, the civil liberty restrictions may be "minor" now, but many years of further "minor" restrictions will eventally turn the U.S. into a totalitarian state. Ho ve and ti' estas viv'!

I am a bit upset about all this 9-11 anniversary stuff. This is because it creates this feeling of helplessness in me. Worse than that, it also seems to express the notion of predetermination -- as if 9-11 was predetermined and unavoidable. What would make me feel better about this issue is if folks would focus more on PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS that have a good chance of defeating terrorisim. Simply put, Reminding me of the horrors of 9-11 makes me feel worse. But finding WORKABLE solutions to the terrorism crisis makes me feel better. That's how my mentality works. You, however, may have a different view on this. And as I always say about such things, ti' estas viv'!

What I hate the most about regular TV is that I don't have any conrtrol over the content. But with YouTube, I actually do have control over the content. If, for example, a show on regular TV that I like is cancelled, it's very unlikley that my demands for the show's return will lead to anything. In contrast, I can still watch that cancelled show (or segments of it) on YouTube, and I can watch them when I want and as often as I want. THAT IS HOW TV SHOULD BE!!!!

Yup! I can't say no to YouTube. YouTube has got to be one of the greatest sites in the history of the Internet!

I'm currently writing a new song - yes I'm a songe songwriter and if you want to hear some of my songs, you can hear them at www.musicforte.com/member/bluesbro.

Anyway I'm writing a protest song about the relationship between New Zealand and the USA. back in the late 1970's lots of US ships used to come to New Zealand for R & R. We would have thousands, well hundreds of marines with haircuts like mine, sailors, officers etc coming in and we took pride in hosting them. We had a dial a sailor program and each time a ship came in, we would invite a group of te guys to come stay in our flat, play cards, do some sight seeing and generally make friends. We also got to visit the ships and submarines which was an awesome experience.

Then our anti nuclear movement started, particularly in relation to the French nuclear testing in the Pacific, but that's another story. As a result and in keeping with our philosophy of being clean and green (which is why we have such a great eco-tourism industry) we banned nuclear ships from visiting our ports. We also banned ships that were carrying nuclear weapons. This was not a political protest and had nothing to do wit how we viewed the US, which had always been very friendly going back to the days that we shared the trenches in WWll, Korea, Viet Nam and other places. Because the US would not confirm or deny that there were nuclear weapons on board, they stopped coming and our relationship turned to shit.

The US decided that we were no longer an ally and put a stop to economic and military relationships. We had a local treaty called ANZUS which was between NZ, Australia and the US and the US refused to train and run war games wit us, which we had done for decades prior.

We are a peaceful nation and have always valued our relationships with our US friends, but because we wanted to eliminate the risk of any nuclear accidents, we were penalised and were no longer considered allies or friends of the US. There is a diplomatic term for our relationship, but I can't remember what it is called. The status is lower than the relationship with countries like China and Iraq to put it inperspective. Whether you agree with the policy we decided on doesn't matter, many Kiwi's don't agree with it or believe it is no longer relevant.

We are a small country in the South Pacific with a population of a few people over 4,000,000 in the entire country, the equivalent of a large US city! Despite that, we have sent small peace keeping forces all over the world including Afghanistan, Iraq, Korean Peninsula, Kosovo, Sudan, East Timor, Fiji, New Guinea, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bouganville, Sinai, Solomon Islands, Cambodia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and more. I think that illustrates that we care for world peace and are prepared to shoulder some responsibility, even for a small country.

We have free trade agreements with Australia and many oter countries, but we can't get one with the USA, which forced us to seek and receive free trade agreements with countries like China, where we now have an official friend relationship which we can't get with the USA.

So I ask you, are we bad people? Are we a security risk to the US? We like Americans and many of us visit the US regularly for business or pleasure. I have been over myself probably 10 times and have personal friends all over the US. But te US won't recognise us as friends or allies. Is that appropriate?

So Mr Bush, why can't we be friends?

As to the song, I hope to record it in the next month and it will appear on my website at Music Forte. Maybe Mr President will come and listen? I doubt it, though. Don't you?

People who like you

If you want someone to do a favor for you, you have to make sure they like you. Because people who don't like you are very unlikely to do favors for you. I've noticed that when I ask strangers or folks I barely know for favors, they almost always say no. But when I ask people who like me for favors, they frequently say yes. I feel that I have a snowball's chance in the solar corona of persuading people to do me favors. Therefore, I only asks for favors from people who I believe are most likely to say yes. And those people are always the people who like me. Besides, I did recently decide that I need to avoid negative influences. Dealing with folks who don't like me is definitely a very negative influence. But dealing with folks who DO like me represents the height and depth of positive influences.

Yup! I'm in a horribly good mood today. Because finally I found a place that provides FAST Internet. Though it's not quite the fastes Intenet I've experienced, it is fast enough. Did I just cross over into a universe where the Intenet is fast, or did I just stumble upon a fluke of fast Internet? It's just a question.

A couple of days ago on C-SPAN, I heard a number of viewers claim that Geneva Conventions allow for the immediate execution of combatants who don't give their name, rank and serial number. Is that true? Well to find out, I've decided to read Geneva Conventions from beginning to end. That way, I can have an INFORMED opinion of the worth of the Conventions. Though I may be wrong, I'm of the mind that those C-SPAN viewers I mentioned never read Geneva Conventions. If so, they offered an UNINFORMED opinion of the Conventions. (Duh!)

Apostles of Hatred and Fear...
As I watched Jerry Fallwell on TV last night,
I knew that the Anti-Christ was here.

The Golden Rule he has turned into Lead:
Now it only reads "Do Unto Others".
He wants to insure we have Crosses to bear
And supports laws to repress his Brothers.

His Dogma oozed out like Puss from Christ's Wounds
Reeking of Bigotry and Malice.
I'm certain his Holy Rituals produce
Vomit from Wine in his Chalice.

Marilyn Manson was wrong

I remember Marilyn Manson once claimed that the (s)election of G.W. Bush would be a good thing in that it would compel creative people to be even more creative as a backlash to the increasing conservative influence. Now five years later, Manson has been proven wrong -- at least according to my observations. We live in a done-to-death dystopia where old ideas are cherished and new ideas are hated. If half the shows on TV are "reality" shows and half the movies at the theaters are remakes of old TV shows, then that demostrates how creativity has suffered as opposed to improve. Even the small press has become less creative over the years. Most of the zines presented in review zines (the ones I know of anyway) are either perzines or music zines. If you do a zine that's experimental and atypical, it very likely will be dismissed by reviewers -- as if zines must adhere to a limited number of criteria.

Yup! Marilyn Manson was wrong, creativity is suffering, and I'm pissed off over that. Of course you may disagree agree with me on this, and that's your right. Even so, I challenge you to change my mind on this matter.

Finally, the mainstream news is taking note of regeneration research:
But from my perspective, this is old news -- old news that should have been heavily publicized for years!

Again, I have to say that the main problem I have with global warming skeptics is that they consistently insist that the economy is more important than the environment. Though I am open to the possibilty that the skeptics are right, I'm also of the mind that the environment is more important than the economy. And if you can prove to me that the economy is more important than the environment, then I'll become a global warming skeptic too. More on that later.

The inability to persuade is the suckiest piece of suck that ever sucked! Because if you can't persuade, then people can control your life. According to my view, the only person who should control your life is you. But if you can't persuade people not to control your life, you are therefore fucked up for life. Of course that's my story. Since I can't persuade people, I either have to live my life according to their demands or stay the fuck away from them. It's also further proof of how weak and powerless I am. Man, do I wish the world wasn't the way it is!

I NEED new friends!

I NEED new friends! I recently lost a number of friends due to my "defective" personality, and I'm of the mind that I need some friends who can tolerate (not necessarily approve of) my "defective" personality. Of course in this world without consensus, no two people share the same view of what friendship is. Therefore, I've concluded that friends are required to find a compromise on their defintions of friendship. But that hasn't worked for me lately. One former friend of mine seemed to have decided that his definition of friendship is superior to mine. As a result, I had to follow his defintion of friendship (which includes being banned from his house for life). Since I thought (and still think) that's bullshit, I had to end the friendship.

Since there is a population of 6 billion, it should be entirely possible for me to find a few folks who can tolerate my "defective" personality. If not, then I guess that means life sucks far more than I thought it did.

Friendship is stupider than ever!

Is a friend really a friend if they punish your for not having the kind of personality they want you to have? I, of course, say that such an action is indicative of an enemy. And if you did the same thing to them, that would make you an asshole -- further proof that we live in a double standard dystopia. Also, another stupid question: Are the rules of friendship written in law, or are they just traditions that have generally been around for centuries? If the later is the case --and I think it is -- then that means I have the right to define friendship by my own terms. And the same sort of thing applies to everybody else. Therefore, whether I'm a good friend or not is completely dependent on context. Unfortunately, my conclusions here very likely will be ignored, and my view of frinedship -- according to many people -- will be defined as sign of my defective personality. And that's why I say Friendship is stupider than ever!

A former friend, now a current enemy (Duh!), continues to ban me from his house for life. Of course it'll be a cold day in the solar corona before I'm able to persuade this enemy to change his mind. Further proof that I'm weak and powerless.

Persuasion is the ultimate power. History shows that I don't have that power. And in this evil ass, fucked up, piece-of-shit, Law of the Jungle-oriented pseudo-society, the weak and powerless must always be punished. and that's my deal. "Shut the fuck up about that shit. I don't weant to be part of your pity party!" Sorry. But in this world without consensus, pity parties happen. Also, you do have a choice to avoid it. I'm not stopping you. in the meantime, I'm going to continue to stay bummed out and depressed about my weakness and powerlessness.

I think I know what my problem is. My problem is that I want to be different because being "normal" is boring to me. Thus, if I am to become a "normal" person, my mentality has to change in such a way that being different would be boring. For example, my current way of thinking says that things like science, Esperanto and long toenails on women are action-packed and exciting. If my mentality were more "normal", then there's a good chance that I'll then think of things like science, Esperanto and long toenails on women as being very boring. Now the stupid question of the moment: Do I have to be "normal"? My answer to that question is I'm not answering that question. Since I'm not "normal", then I'm unlikely to yield the "correct" answer. But more to the point, my problem is only a problem if you think of it in those terms. I prefer not to think of it in those terms. But of course I'm just on person, so what do I know?

What do women want? Despite my insuffuciencies in this area, I think I know what the answer is. What women want is a vast variety of things. This is because no two women are alike, and therefore different women want different things. Though it's possible that this conclusion of mine might be incorrect, I DARE anybody to prove me wrong.

the inalienable rights...

I would like everyone's help in defining the necessary Human Rights in a new century. In a capitalistic, material world, where we have been vastly divided from the natural means for maintaining life; it seems that the principles of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness are lofty aspirations with no real grounding. There is no connection between you and the food that you put in your mouth, unless of course you work at the grocery, or a restaurant, or maybe a farm. Most toil their lives away for some numbers, that allow them to buy almost enough of what they don't need. Inflation makes economic freedom almost a distant dream. We live in a digital age dependent on centralized Power and Heat, Water, Information; ruled by Corporate Government, like cold molasses with bureaucracy. PG&E (any company that collects "taxes" for electricity, gas, propane. they are all the same one anyway), LOCKHEED, AEROJET, KAISER, AT&T, IRS, ANY INSURANCE COMPANY, ANY BANK, ANY COMPANY / ENTERPRISE SUPPORTED / MADE NECESSARY BY GOVERNMENT OR LAW. This is not a free market, because NO ONE is free to interact within it. Demand is the plaything of the same people who had slaves and serfs. Sure quality of life is vastly better in some parts of the world, and yet are we any freer?

I am not easily defined so please do not read into what I have said. I believe in an America, I believe in humanity, I believe in Myself. I would like to work with others to define these "basic"/ "inalienable" rights in order to design a new model for going forward in the modern age, IT IS OUR RIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITY TO DO SO. If you cannot take this seriously please just do not respond.

You know, I learned something today. I learned that Detroit is a HORRIBLE place for creative people to live. And I learned that by going to Craig's List. In the Detroit section of the list, I noticed that there are extremely few freelance art jobs in Detroit. But when I went to the New York, Chicago and Los Angeles sections, I noticed those cities have freelance art jobs by the megaton. Therefore if I want to improve my chances of succeeding at art, I need to get my black ass out of Detroit. It's like living amongst the Borg Collective here anyway.

I don't feel attractive even though I've been told by numerous folks that I am attractive. If I had a girlfriend, I'd definitely change my view on that. But it seems to me that I can't get a girlfriend if I remain shy and socially akward. So to that I ask, what's wrong with being shy and socially akward? Why can't I remain be shy and socially akward and get a girlfriend?! Being shy and socially akward is part of who I am. So why can't I find any women who can appreciate those sorts of attributes?

I want to attain happiness on my own terms. Unfortunately, I'm often told by certain people that I should attain happiness on their terms. To that I say, not for all the software in Silicon Valley!! I'm different from you, therefore what makes me happy is different from what makes you happy. But if you're so confident that your method of attaining happiness is so supieror to mine, then why don't you take over he world and force ALL people to attain happiness on your terms! No?! I guess that's unlikely to work because so many folks would be as pissed off as I am at the idea of someone else forcing their idea of happiness on them!
My therapist recently suggested that I cut down on sugar because sugar is linked to depression. And I'm like, "Cutting down on sugar sounds depressing to me." Nevertheless, I'm going to try her advice. If it doesn't work, then maybe I can go back to my high-sugar diet. Or maybe not.

Certain people like to tell me that it's impossible for me to have total creative freedom and make profit at the same time. Well, certain recent events have convinced me that they are wrong (or at least mostly inaccurate). I just slapped together a web comic that will provide me with a much bigger audience than ever, and potentially lead me to profitable cartooning ventures. Here's the web comic in question:
http://www.nailbytes1.com/rw02010.htm

I also can't help but to ask why are there so many creative people who oppose creativity? But since that question is off topic here, so I won't go into it any further. But I will say that at least my population of 6 billion theory is accurate. (And please don't give me that "There are billions of people in poverty and the last thing on their minds is looking at web comics. Plus, most of the world's population doesn't have Internet access." stuff. I've known that for years, and I probably knew it before you did!)

Anyway, doing web comics for popular web sites kicks ass!

My weekend was substantially improved when I found a printout of the sunset photo I took in February of last year. Kick ass! Now that I've found it, I'm going to make it as painfully difficult as possible for me to lose it again. Thus, I'm slapping together many, many backup copies of the photo in question. And the next time I photograph a sunset, I'm going to make a megaton of backup copies for that too!

A possible reason why some say success equals failure if you don't conform

In this so-called "society", many people believe that the primary purpose of the individual is to conform to some standard "normal" way of being. Because of that, many people believe that not conforming to the standard "normal" way of being constitutes failure. For example, consider my recent web comic success. I mentioned this success on a comics-themed message board a few weeks ago. Most of the responses I got there were statements that claimed I'm still a failure or will fail or haven't provided any evidence of success. This may be my opionion, but I suspect that these people are saying I'm a failure as a web comic artist because the theme of my web comic does not conform to the standard "normal" way of being. And what theme is that? The theme is LONG TOENAILS ON WOMEN! (Yeah! Really, man!)

Yes, the notion of long-toenailed women is not popular in most comic strip areas. But it is very popular in the area of long nail fetish web sites. Thus, my new web comic is featured on a LONG NAIL FETISH WEB SITE. THAT'S why I say my web comic is a success! Especailly since it probably gets more views than all my other web site endeavors combined.

I'm of the mind that creativity is mainly about changing the world. It has little if anything to do with the standard "normal" way of being. Any and all changes to the world go against the standard "normal" way of being. Consider this outragous statement that may have been made some 50 years ago:

"Rosa Parks, your protesting of the segragation laws contradicts the standard 'normal' way of being. Therefore, you're a was a failure."

Needeless to say, the same people who say I'm a failure because I won't do my comics in the standard "normal" way of being won't say that Rosa Parks was a failure for also going against the standard "normal" way of being.

"But that was years ago. Segreation is no longer part of the standard 'normal' way of being."

That proves my point exactly. The world won't stay the way it is forever. It's possible (no guarantee, of course) that long nail fetish comics may become more popular in the future.

"But now you're saying that the standard 'normal' way of being will be a good thing if your ideas become popular."

No. I'm just saying that change is one of the few constants of life. And the standard "normal" way of being is only wrong in my view if it's being forced on people when they have a right not to take part in it. I mean, there is no law that says that all web comics should conform to the standard "normal" way of being. People have the right to do comics -- web or otherwise -- any way they want, be it the standard "normal" way of being or otherwise. Success, basically, is whatever you want it to be. And in my case, success is expressing new ideas to a sizable audience. With my latest web comic, that's exactly what I got. I'm a successful web comic artist whether you don't like it or do. Yeah, baby!

HOW DO YOU PROVE THAT ALL PEOPLE ARE IMPERFECT?

I've recently read Ann Coulter's book Slander, and the main message of the book, as far as I can tell, is that conservatives are PERFECT. Of course I've long believed at ALL people are imperfect, conservatives included. But then some may ask how can you prove all people are imperfect without going through the impossible trouble of meeting all 6.4 billion people? Well, I don't claim to be an expert in this area, but I think the best evidence that all people are imperfect is the second law of thermodynamics. If I understand it correctly, this second law states that in any closed system there is an increased tendency for that system to become more disordered over time. And since the laws of physics are the same for everyone and everything in the universe, then such an effect must apply to conservatives as well as everyone else. Or to put it another way, the second law of thermodynamics makes error possible.

If Coulter is right about conservatives being perfect, I'd like to challange her and other such people to prove the second law of thermodynamics wrong. Once they've done that, then I'll believe they're perfect and join their side. On the other hand, it might not have to come to that since I have noticed that Coulter refers to "Down syndrome" as "Down's Sysndrome" in her book Slander. Even if that's the only mistake she's ever made in her life, it still shows that she is imperfect. So for the time being, I'm assuming that she and other conservatives are as imperfect as the rest of us slobs.

Conservative and liberal definitions

Have you ever noticed that the definitions of "conservative" and "liberal" are not as exact as some may think. For example, the traditional definitions of "conservative" and "liberal" are determined by how one stands on certain issues. If you oppose abortion, you're "conservative." If you support abortion, you're "liberal." But if you define "conservative" and "liberal" in a certain other way, those who oppose abortion would be the "liberals" and those who support abortion would be the "conservatives." That is, a conservative can also be defined as a person who supports the status qou, while a liberal can be defined as a person who wants to cahnge the status quo. If abortion is part of the status qou, that means that its supports are "conservative" and its opponents are "liberal."

Of course if I had my way, the "conservative" and "liberal" labels would never be used. Instead, people would be judged by their unique and individual views. Everybody in the world doesn't think alike despite what certain folks might say. And if I'm wrong about that, then I'm President Laura Roslin: Leader of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol!

Nothing changes on new year's day! (And I DON'T CARE if I'm taking that U2 song out of context!!)

I have a number of reasons why I hate new years. but I think the biggest reason is the strong implication of PREDETERMINATION. It's as if people think the year controls them and that whatever happens to them in a particular year is the fault of the year. Similaly, I've heard folks say such nonsensicle statements as, "I hope 2006 turns out better than 2005." 2006 and 2005 are MENTAL CONCEPTS. They can't have any effect on how good or bad your year is. It's not like the year 2005 is some living, breathing entity who's taken a dislike to you and decided to ruin your year.

I want COMPLETE SELF-DETERMINATION. Therefore, I REJECT the notion that a year itself can control your life. I also REJECT the notion of celebrating new years as if they have some life-changing importance. You may have right to believe in such nonsense, but I also have the right to reject such nonesense. And I can never shut up about how I hate, hate, hate, hate new years! Nothing changes on new year's day! (And I DON'T CARE if I'm taking that U2 song out of context!!)

Worf goes through the stargate to get to the Gamma Quadrant

I recently dreamed that I saw an episode of Deep Space Nine that I'd never seen before. In this episode, Worf gets really pissed off at how the war with the Dominion is going, and so he decides to contact a mysterious alien race in the Gamma quadrant that's been rumored to have a military technology that could turn the tide of the war. Though Sisko doesn't authorize it, Worf goes ahead and seeks out that alien race by going through the stargate. (I know there's no stargates on DS9, but that's what happened in the dream.) Sisko knows that Worf is likely to disobey his orders, so he has the stargate reprogrmmed so it'll send Worf to a friendly planet where he'll later get picked up by starship and sent back to DS9. But Worf works around that and gates to the forbidden Gamma Quadrant planet anyway. Once there, he makes contact with the mysterious alien race and succesfully persuades them to fight the Dominion.

Yup! That's some weird stuff. And yes, I also know how nonsensicle the premise behind this unreal DS9 episode is. But it was a dream, therefore it doesn't have to make sense.

It seems like the right to say no doesn't apply to me. Every time I ask people NOT to say "happy new year" to me, they do it anyway. Yet if I violated another person's right to say no, I would get into a shitload of trouble. I guess that's just another example of what a double-standard dystopia this is!

"Creative" people who oppose creativity

hate when "creative" people tell me not to be creative! They're always saying things like, "You can't sell comics if they don't feature popular ideas." or "You have to give the public what they want." I thought we're supposed to be the human race, not the Borg Collective!! Besides, it makes no sense to do comics like everyone else does because then your comcis won't stand out. I mean, I could do a comic similar in look and feel to The Simpsons. But chances are that most folks will prefer the real Simpsons to a Simpson rip-off. But when I explain that sort of thing to the folks who insist I do comics the "normal" way, they still don't give a shit. Plus, how can creative people oppose creativity when creativity requires one to do that which is different?! If this so-called "society" isn't a backward world, then I'm Major General Hank Landry: Leader of Stargate Command!!

I think I saw Honey, I Shrunk the Kids on Cartoon Network. Now the question at hand is what's that live-action movie got to do with cartoons? I mean, I could understand why they put Small Soldiers on Cartoon Network since that movie did have some animation. But as far as I can remember, there was no animation on Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Can anybody explain this?

A news service that covers EVERYTHING!

I wish there was a news service that covers EVERYTHING. A news service that covers everything would cover as wide a variety of news as possible. They would cover the most popular news, they would cover the least popular news and they would cover the news between the two extremes. A news service like that would provide people with news they might not hear about otherwise. But if such a news service already exists, I haven’t heard of it. And it’s been my experience that even the so-called “alternative” news sources only focus their coverage on a narrow range of topics. Even if what they cover is different from the mainstream news, it’s still narrow news coverage. The closest news source that I know of that covers everything is C-SPAN. And though they don’t cover everything, at least they have the decency not to tell their viewers what to think. C-SPAN may rock, but I still wish a news service that covers EVERYTHING.

It looks like I lost some more friends. I'm no longer welcome at the cartoonist group I used to deal with because the "head" guy didn't like what I said about certain things. "Well, Yul, that's what you get for being socially inept." Maybe. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm only responsibel for MY behavior, not anybody elses.

On the other hand, that mess with the former friend further proves that if honesty is the best policy, then I'm General Pervez Musharraf: President and Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Admittely, I don't know much about friendship. But as far as I can tell, you can only be friends with someone if you become the kind of person they wnat you to be. If you're being yourself, however, there's a good chance no one will want you as a friend. Ti' estas viv' and kia fus^aj^o!

Change the world

Many, many, many things bother me. But I'm going to conclude that the thing that bothers me the most is the claim that you can't change the world. Everyday, people remind me that you can't change the world. The message is always the same. The world will always and forever nbethe same. It's against the laws of physics to change the world. And the worst part, of course, is that I'm often defined as a class A-1 nutball for believing that the world can be changed. Therefore, there's only one message I want to give to those who say it's impossible to change the world: SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look! If people have the right to believe that the world is flat, or that alien abductions are real, or that intelligent design is valid, then I have the right believe that you CAN change the world! If you hate the fact that I believe the world can be changed, that's YOUR problem! I AM NOT required to agree with you on this issue and you're not required to agree with me either! This one thing I can't compromise on! Therefore, I thoroughly demand that you never try to tell me that you can't change the world!

Indoctrination

I guess by now most folks have forgotten about Rosa Parks. That in itself further confirms my belief that much of the admiration for Rosa Parks is false. That is, many people have literally been INDOCTRINATED to show admiration for Rosa Parks while not having actual admiration for her. What made Rosa Parks such a major historic figure is that she didn’t conform (at least not conform to the segregation laws). And her nonconformity led to the obviously great social change that resulted. Likewise, other people who have “changed the world” have committed certain acts of nonconformity. But to many of those who claim to admire Rosa Parks, nonconformity is inherently bad. Yet they can’t understand the obvious fact that nonconformity is what made Rosa Parks such a major historic figure. Yes, nonconformity is not always good. But in certain cases it’s definitely good. But again I have to say that too many people automatically condemn nonconformity while not realizing the civil rights matriarch that they seemingly admire so much was a nonconformist in certain respects.

In other words, nonconformity is what’s requires to change things and Rosa Parks used nonconformity to do just that. But if you want to automatically condemn nonconformity, then why are you such an admirer of Rosa Parks. I’m just asking. I’m always just asking.

This cheap Keychain digital camera I recently bought from Walgreens is turning out to be a pretty good deal. Though the resolution isn’t much (352 x 288 pixels or thereabouts), it’s still a better digital camera than the Stylecam Blink camera I bought three years ago. And it was cheaper too.

Admittedly, this camera is pretty low-grade compared to most other digital cameras. But since I’m not too picky in this area, I think the Keychain camera worked for me

I went on my first date in a bunch of years yesterday. (I think my last date happened in 1988?) And I say now and I'll say later that I thoroughly enjoyed it! I dated a woman friend of mine I've known for almost a year, and that date with her might not have happened if my therapist hadn't suggested it.

Anyway, my date and I first went to an nearby restarant soon after I got off from work. From there, we went to a nearby music hall to listen to three of a number of musical acts scheduled for the 24-hour free music day event. But the best part was soon after she drove me home, she gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Yup! being hugged and kissed by attractive women really kicks ass!

So I guess the lesson from that experience is that dating a far, far, far less scary than I thought it was. therefore, I plan to date more women more frequently in the very near future.

There are few things more powerful than the right to say "no"

There are few things more powerful than the right to say no. Because the person who says no has ALL the power, while the person on the receiving end of the no has NO power. Despite the fact that some people will disregard the rights of others to say no, the right to say no is still among the most powerful concepts in exisitence. My pathetic experience is definitely among the best examples of how powerful the right to say no is. I’m of the mind that when someone says no, they mean no FOREVER! I repeat, when someone says no, they mean no FOREVER! If you try to persuade them to say yes, that would make you an a--hole. Because when someone says no, they mean no FOREVER!

At thesame time, when I say no, most of the people I’ve dealth with seem to think it’s mesningless. For example, some scumhole coworker of mine kept turning off the fry machine one day some years ago. And even after I saw him do it, he denied it. Eventually, I told a superviser about that bullsh-- and the bullsh-- stopped. But when the scumhole in question kept telling me he didn’t do it, I kept telling him to shut the f--- up. He absolutelty refuse to shut the f--- up. I was expressing my right to say no and this f---hole refused to respect my right. The obly way out for me was to leave the crew room. People are such monumental a--holes!!

When people tell me no, I feel I have no choice but to comply. Because if I don’t, I very likely will get in trouble. Of course those who disregard my right to say no usually don’t suffer consequences. That’s how things often work in this double-standard dystopia. “But, Yul. You’re being a whining a--hole. So what if people don’t respect your right to say no?! Stop crying victim all the time and grow up!” Well, that’s one interpretation. But since this is my blog, I can be as whiny an a--hole as I want to be. Likewise, you can STOP READING this blog if you don’t like its content (Duh)! “But I don’t want to be a part of your pity party! So stop whining!” Damn! Dang! Darn! I hate, hate, hate, hate that “pity party” bullsh--!!! Anybody who uses that viciously stupid and evil term should leave the Earth and get sucked into a black hole!! (“Balck hole sun won’t you come and wash away the rain...”) If you hate pity parties so much, then stop whining about them and you won’t be a part of them!!! And besides, if you don’t like the content of this blog, STOP READING IT!!!!!!

As I’ve said before, trying to persuade someone to say yes after they’ve said no makes you an a--hole. But whether it makes you an a--hole or not, effective persuasion seems to be the key to true empowerment. Therefore, persuading someone to say yes after they’ve said no is even more powerful than the right to say no. Of course there’s a problem here for me. Because for me persuasion is against the laws of physics. I have a better chance of building a perpetual motion machine that works than I have of persuading people. And if you can’t persuade people, those people will have the ability to use their powerful right to say no to restrict your rights. And as always, it’s always more complicated than that. Because sometimes your “rights” have to be restricted, especially if you’re doing something illegal. But the focus here is on my admittedly distorted perceptions on how persuasion should and shouldn’t work. And despite my distorted perceptions and the fact that I don’t like it, I still think no means no FOREVER.

What if every person you encountered told you to shut up and never speak again unless it’s something they want to hear? If you have something you desparetelty want to say and it’s not what everyone wants to hear, then you can’t say it without being punished. Wouldn’t that suck? Indeed, it would suck -- unless that’s what you want. I was once told that the right to free speech doesn’t equal the right to be heard. With that being the case, you therefore can’t excercise free speech without the consent of others. And if no one gives you consent to speak freely, then you have no free speech rights. How powerful is that?!

On the other hand, there is a population of 6 billion. With an inconcievably high population like that, there has to besome people who will readily give you the right to speak. Likewise, I’m constantly hoping to encounter people who already have the mentality to give me permission to speak freely. But the vast majority of the time, it doesn’t work out that way. And there lies one of my greatest fears. The fear of being silenced. My daily concern is that I want to be heard. I want to contribute my unique ideas and ways of thinking to the world. But if the world doesn’t want to hear me, then I have to shut the f--- up. And if I have to shut the f--- up, then one of my worst fear will have come true. And sometimes I feel as if I’m living that worst fear already.

Yes! There are few things more powerful than the right to say no. And that right to say no can take away your rights. To persuade some one who says no to say yes makes you an a--hole. But your a--hole status might no matter of your persuasion is effective enough. As for me, I have a snowball’s chance in the solar corona of persuading people. As such, I have to live in constant fear that my free speach rights will be taken away by fellow citizens using their right to say no . I know that’s an exageration. But it’s my blog, so I’m going to say it anyway -- until my free speech rights get removed of course.

I have had a few ideas over the years. In no particular order of preference, this is what I have imagined so far:

a) being left in the woods to be dragged off by wild animals
b) ashes into a huge fireworks dispalay
c) ashes divided up into beautiful little jars and given to all the attendees at the wake as party favors
Actually I am very partial to "c" at the moment.

As for the pre-cremation display, I would like a coffin made out of basketry beautifully woven. I want my face painted with a black band across my eyes from one temple to the other. Some lovely embroidered fabric as a shroud. Carnations all around my feet in the basket. Every now and then another thing comes to mind that I'd like as a deathoration...

SNAP! kicked ass! It was the best comic convention I ever did. I made over $35 selling my comics -- an unprecedented success! Also, the con further proved my "Population of 6 Billion" theory. That is, since there's apopulation of 6 billion, there exists a small yet substantial number of people who have the mentality to appreciate my comics! Moreover, the secret to my success at SNAP! doesn't really seem that secret. SNAP! had a focus on small press comics. While the comic cons I previously attended -- which were mostly unsuccessful for me -- had a focus on mainstream comics.

Yup! That's what I'm talkin' about! If you want to sell small press comics at a comic convention, then you need to go to a convention whose focus is on small press comics. Again I say, SNAP! kicked ass, and there's still a population of 6 billion!

If I had my way, I would talk and talk and talk and talk and never shut up! But since it seems like doing that could get me in trouble, I've decided to slap together a personal blog of my own:
http://timeliketoons.tripod.com/genx_text/genx_notes.htm
"Hey! Can't you still get in trouble with your blog?" Yup, I still could get in trouble with my blog. But at least there, folks won't be able to tell me to shut up to my face. Or at least that's the theory.

Rosa Parks was not a conformist

I find much of the admiration for Rosa Parks to be disingenuous because of the simple contradiction between pseudo-society's demand for blind conformity and her fame for the extremely nonformist act she did. If being a nonconformist is so horrible, then why is Rosa Parks such a hero? Those who followed the segretation laws were CONFORMISTS. And as anyone with functioning brain cells should know, conformity is not always good (though in a lot of cases it is). Therefore, I would like to assert that if you're going to condemn someone for not conforming, make sure your condemnation is justified. Otherwise, you may end up supporting a view that will be defined as wrong in the future. In other words, be like Rosa Parks and don't conform to stupid rules. (Yeah, I know there's no consensus on what the stupid rules are, but we'll get into that later.)

I'm still here, and I still have an active custom comic book service for those interested. The basic details behind my service are that virtually any theme is acceptable and the minimum cost per page is $10. I'd rather not go into further details on the guidelines for my custom comic service because, by definition, each custom comic is unique to each customer. Therefore, the further details will have to be worked out after you've decided to apply for my service. Doesn't that sound like it could work?

I hate waste, because waste is like failure to me. Plus it's bad for the biosphere too. And that's why I'm as happy as a little girl to discover Freecycle. It's a program that allows people to get free stuff and prevent waste. When you sign up for it, you can post requests on the Freecycle site for things you want or want to get rid of. If somebody else there has that item you want and they don't want it anymore, they will give it to you. Likewise, you can give the item you no longer want to somebody who does want it. It's practically the best thing since laser-beam-sliced bread!

Anyway, if you want to try Freecycle, go to: freecycle.org . I think we need more Freecycling!

Why isn't nuclear fusion research top news?!?

Why isn't nuclear fusion research top news?!? "Because nuclear fusion research is boring to most people, and the news media can only afford to cover news that most poeple are interested in." Are you sure about that? I mean, nuclear fusion research could lead to virtullly limitless, nearly pollution-free energy. With gas prices at $3 a gallon, I think most people would welcome the virtullly limitless, nearly polution-free energy that could be provided by nuclear fusion. "But there's no guarantee that nuclear fusion will work and that it could produce more problems with the environment." I know that and I've known that for years. But since that potential is there, I think nuclear fusion research is at least as newsworthy as the war in Iraq. So until nuclear fusion research gets the attention it deserves, here's some info on the latest developments:

msnbc.msn.com/id/7654627
Nuclear fusion on the desktop ... really! - Science - MSNBC.com
===============================================
Mini-reactor yields neutrons, could power spacecraft
Image: Fusion experiment
UCLA
A key part of the apparatus for the nuclear fusion experiment is in the foreground. In the background are researchers Seth Putterman, Brian Naranjo and Jim Gimzewski.

Scientists say they have achieved small-scale nuclear fusion in a tabletop experiment, using tried and true techniques that are expected to generate far less controversy than past such claims.

This latest experiment relied on a tiny crystal to generate a strong electric field. While the energy created was too small to harness cheap fusion power, the technique could have potential uses in medicine, spacecraft propulsion, the oil drilling industry and homeland security, said Seth Putterman, a physicist at the University of California at Los Angeles.

Putterman and his colleagues at UCLA, Brian Naranjo and Jim Gimzewski, report their results in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.
Story continues below ↓ advertisement
[0]

Past derision
Previous claims of tabletop fusion have been met with skepticism and even derision by physicists.

In one of the most notable cases, Dr. B. Stanley Pons of the University of Utah and Martin Fleischmann of Southampton University in England shocked the world in 1989 when they announced that they had achieved so-called cold fusion at room temperature. Their work was discredited after repeated attempts to reproduce it failed.

Another technique, known as sonoluminescence, generates heat through the collapse of tiny bubbles in a liquid. Some scientists claim that nuclear fusion occurs during the reaction, but those claims have sparked sharp debate.

Fusion experts said the UCLA experiment will face far less skepticism because it conforms to well-known principles of physics.

"This doesn't have any controversy in it because they're using a tried and true method," David Ruzic, professor of nuclear and plasma engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, told The Associated Press. "There's no mystery in terms of the physics."

In a Nature commentary, Michael Saltmarsh of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory said the UCLA process was in some ways "remarkably low-tech," drawing upon principles that were first recorded by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus in 314 B.C.

Ultimate energy source
Fusion power has been touted as the ultimate energy source and a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels like coal and oil. Fossil fuels are expected to run short in about 50 years.

Image: Inside the chamber
UCLA
A view inside the crystal-based fusion chamber: "This is an amazing photo," UCLA's Seth Putterman says. "You're actually looking at the tracks of the fusion in the scintillator."

In fusion, light atoms are joined in a high-temperature process that frees large amounts of energy. It is considered environmentally friendly because it produces virtually no air pollution and does not pose the safety and long-term radioactive waste concerns associated with modern nuclear power plants, where heavy uranium atoms are split to create energy in a process known as fission.

In the UCLA experiment, scientists placed a tiny crystal that can generate a strong electric field into a vacuum chamber filled with deuterium gas, a form of hydrogen capable of fusion. Then the researchers activated the crystal by heating it.

The resulting electric field created a beam of charged deuterium atoms that struck a nearby target, which was embedded with yet more deuterium. When some of the deuterium atoms in the beam collided with their counterparts in the target, they fused.

The reaction gave off an isotope of helium along with subatomic particles known as neutrons, a characteristic of fusion. The experiment did not, however, produce more energy than the amount put in — an achievement that would be a huge breakthrough.

Commercial uses
UCLA's Putterman said future experiments will focus on refining the technique for potential commercial uses, including designing portable neutron generators that could be used for oil well drilling or scanning luggage and cargo at airports.

The technology also could conceivably give rise to implantable radiation sources, which could target cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. "You could bring a tiny crystal into the body, place it next to a tumor, turn on the radiation and blast the tumor," Putterman told MSNBC.com.

In the Nature report, Putterman and his colleagues said the crystal-based method could be used in "microthrusters for miniature spacecraft." In such an application, the method would not rely on nuclear fusion for power generation, but rather on ion propulsion, Putterman said.

"As wild as it is, that’s a conservative application," he said.

This report includes information from The Associated Press and MSNBC's Alan Boyle.

Whiny city council candidates

A lot of Detroit city council candidates who have lost the primary election last August have complained about how name recognition seems to have mattered more than political knowledge and expertise. For example, singer Martha Reeves, who has no political expertise as far as I know, apparently won because she's famous. Meanwhile, candidates who are unknown yet have political knowledge and experience barely had a chance to win. Of course some might say these city council candidates who lost the election are just being whiny losers. Others would say they have a justifiable grievance. I say it's both. It's both because in this world without consensus, there's no agreement on what's whining and what's a justifiable grievance.

Cassini protests unnecessary?

I recently heard on The History Channel that NASA put the nuclear power core of the Cassini space probe in some kind of ceramic material designed to survive an explosion of the launch vehicle containing the probe. If that's true, then those anti-nuclear folks who protested the Cassini launch were wasting their time.

Is Oil Storm actually happening?

A few months ago, the FX cable network broadcast a movie called Oil Storm. It was about the gasoline shortage created in part by a massive hurricane that hit a Louisiana oil refinery in the near future (now more like the near present). At the end of the movie, gas prices had shot up to $8 a gallon. So I ask, does the current hurricane situation make Oil Storm sound like it's happening as we speak?

What do you say to someone who may be attracted to you?

What do you say to someone who may be attracted to you? I think I have a fairly good idea what to say. But at the same time, I'm not sure if what I think I should say is entirely correct. My current view is that I should just be friendly toward the person in question. And if her attraction becomes more pronounced later, then I should ask her out and such. Any other suggestions?

Should NASA’s budget be cut to help fund hurricane relief?

Should NASA’s budget be cut to help fund hurricane relief? I say no for numerous reasons (which I believe most of us on this tribe might agree with). First of all, the NASA budget is about 1 percent of federal government spending. And if the reconstruction of the hurricane-affected areas is estimated to be over $150 billion, then how is a portion of NASA’s (relatively) tiny $15 or $16 billion budget going to help? Second (a very obvious second when you think about it), cutting the U.S. military budget in half should provide plenty of funding for reconstruction. Not only that, but even at half its current levels, the U.S. military budget would still be the BIGGEST MILITARY BUDGET ON EARTH!! Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know you war hawks think the current half-a-trillion-dollar military budget is too small. But I’m not here to debate the military budget. I’m here to defend NASA’s existence.

Lastly, possibly the best argument of all, I remember an argument for continued space exploration made by the late science fiction writer Isaac Asimov. He explained that
